Acer Laptop and Microsoft Outlook 2007 Problems

Firing up the newly installed full version of Microsoft Outlook 2007 on an Acer laptop caused the following error message to display:

The required file RTFHTML.dll cannot be found in your path. Install Microsoft Office Outlook again.

Clicking OK etc and attempting to restart the application generated the next error:

This application has failed to start because MSVCR80.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.

Completing a repair and restart cycle of Office 2007 Professional didn't help the matter any, and the same two error messages were received again in succession. After some forum trawling, I found pointers to the Acer utilities that come pre-installed, specifically the Data Management component which adds encryption and decryption facilities to Vista. To get Outlook working I had to complete the following steps:

  1. Uninstall Acer eDataSecurity Management from HiTRUST Inc. from Programs and Features
  2. Run Microsoft Office 2007 Setup and select the Repair option
  3. Reboot

That's it - Outlook should now be up and running again. I've always distrusted hardware makers software utilities, and this has done little to convince me otherwise. I guess it may be possible to reinstall the Acer stuff and get everything working (it probably registers with the pre-installed trial version of Outlook).

It worked for me, too; same problems, uninstalled EDataSecurity Management, ran Outlook 2007, and it repaired itself. Thanks a bunch!
